In the past decades Aquatic Invasive Species have spread to an alarming number of our lake resources with often devastating and lasting impact. Eurasian Water Milfoil, Zebra Mussels, and Curlyleaf Pondweed infest new lakes when transported by unclean boats.

The impact is extensive.

In Wisconsin over 400 lakes have Eurasian Water Milfoil and 100 have been infested with Zebra Mussels. In Minnesota, 188 lakes have Eurasian Water Milfoil and Zebra Mussels have moved rapidly up the Mississippi River and into inland lakes such as Lake Mille Lacs.

Management Costs

Recent studies show the loss of water clarity will impact lakeshore property values.

For instance if Leech Lake's water clarity were reduced by one meter, per foot value would drop by $600, or $60,000 for 100 feet of lakeshore.

Lake Associations have had to shoulder much of the costs associated with managing Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS).

Plymouth taxpayers contribute over $300,000 in a multi-year effort to clean Curlyleaf Pondweed from Medicine Lake.
